Located in what was then a depressed factory area in Chicago’s south Loop, the Merganthaler building was outdated, worn, and underutilized. The Royal Imperial Group project team started redevelopment efforts by recognizing the historic and architectural significance of the building while envisioning a future with new uses. The Merganthaler Building was the first loft-style building to be converted in the Chicago area. The building garnered great acclaim in the architectural and construction industry. More importantly, the marketplace acknowledged our efforts. Selling out prior to the completion of construction, the project served as the catalyst for the complete redevelopment of the Printers Row District.
